Nervous about your first video? Read this đź‘€

Hey Reader, before we begin I want to remind you about the free training I'm hosting tomorrow with Hayden from Stan.store.

In just an hour we will walk you through exactly how to test, launch, and sell a simple offer in hours, not weeks.

If you’ve ever thought:

"How much do I really have to do to create a sellable offer?"

This webinar is for you. Here are the details:

đź—“ Thursday, May 29 at 2pm ET / 11am PT

🎥 Replay available for all who register

This is going to help you build and launch your first (or next) product quickly, regardless of whether or not you use Stan to sell products and services. I hope to see you there!

Inside the HeyCreator community, one fear comes up again and again:

“I know I need to start making video content, but I don’t feel ready.”

Sometimes it sounds like a gear problem:

“What kind of camera should I buy?”

If you’ve got a smartphone made in the last five years? You’re good to go.

Sometimes it sounds like a scripting problem:

“I don’t know what to say.”

But the words aren’t usually the issue. It’s the voice in your head saying: “That’s too long.” “Too short.” “Too boring.” “Too scripted.” “Not scripted enough.”

Do You Actually Have a Confidence Problem?

Almost every video creator I’ve talked to says the same thing: Getting started meant setting aside fear and imposter syndrome.

The problem usually isn’t gear, or scripts, or needing “one more course.” It’s a confidence issue disguised as a tech or planning issue.

The only way through it is simple:

Record. Publish. Repeat.

Like Ali Abdaal says:

“It’s more important to make 100 bad videos than 10 perfect ones.”

Low-Stress Ways to Get Started

  • Share a quick tip in your Instagram Stories (it disappears in 24 hours)
  • Record a one-take answer to a question from Reddit or Slack
  • Film a screen-recorded workflow using Loom or Descript - you don’t even need to show your face!

What the Pros Are Teaching Inside HeyCreator

Every week in the HeyCreator community, we feature guest experts who share practical strategies for building a sustainable creator business. Some of our most popular sessions? Video.

In our short-form video workshop, Angel Marie broke down how to create content that educates, encourages, or entertains—without overthinking. She even showed off a couple visual hooks you can use while cooking, walking the dog, or working at your kitchen table.

It’s not about polish. It’s about showing up.

What to Keep in Mind

Your first videos won’t be perfect. They’re not supposed to be.

They’re practice—in public.

And if you keep showing up? You’ll build something better than polish: you’ll build momentum.

Your Move

Record something this week. Doesn’t have to be fancy. It just has to be you.

Then hit reply and tell us what you made—or what’s still getting in the way.

Matt

p.s. you can also use your video skills to record course content, which you can then launch and sell with what you learn in my free webinar tomorrow with Stan — register here!
